Club President's Message

 RCBS has decided to support annually  Ushanga a project undertaken by FLRC. The Ushanga Project is a comprehensive initiative aimed at empowering girls affected by gender-based violence. 

Through These structured workshops and mentorship programs provide the necessary tools and support to help these young girls build resilience, confidence, and positive relationships, ultimately leading to a brighter and more empowered future. The celebration of International Day of the Girl further reinforces the importance of gender equality and the potential within each girl, fostering a community that values and supports its young women. This year we donated 5000 Cad for this project.
 

President Kiran & PP Sunil  represented the RCBS at the District Conference held at CHP in Milton on 11th May. This year's conference, themed “Thanking our Families for Sharing Us with Rotary,” 

The day was filled with engaging activities and attractions, including a vibrant House of Friendship & special activities designed for kids. The event kicked off with a colorful flag parade by club presidents, setting a festive tone for the day.

Attendees were educated and inspired by  speakers who delved into Rotary’s areas of focus. The keynote speaker, Alan Mallory, renowned for his Mount Everest expedition, captivated the audience with an enthralling presentation about his family’s  journey to the summit.

District Governor Brenda Halloran, along with incoming District Governor Sohail Naseer, expressed heartfelt thanks to all Rotarians for their unwavering service and dedication. DGE also shared his vision and goals for the upcoming Rotary year, inspiring everyone with his commitment and enthusiasm.

  The RCBS is dedicated to empowering young students-our future leaders-through scholarships and leadership programs. These initiatives are designed to remove barriers to their success and foster their growth.

This Rotary year; each scholarship of Cad 1,000.00 each, four available for each school were given to four schools of Peel District school board. These scholarships recognize students who demonstrate exemplary citizenship qualities, including: outstanding leadership skills in school and community, undertaking community volunteering, showing school spirit and understanding diversity equity & inclusion.

By offering these scholarships, RCBS supports students in their journey to becoming conscientious and engaged citizens.

    Fern, Peace, Usha and Kiran enjoyed a delightful lunch outing, combining fun with a purpose. They took the opportunity to scout the venue for our upcoming 50th anniversary celebration. This gathering allowed them to bond, share ideas, and collaboratively plan for this significant milestone in our club’s history. Their enthusiasm and dedication are sure to make the anniversary event a memorable occasion for all.

Uche Okugo DGND D 7080 and IPP RC Brampton was Guest speaker. He chose to speak on: Role of ‘Promoting Peace’ to shine light on the need for unity. Rtn. Uche emphasized that as rotarians, we must understand that cultivating a diverse, equitable, and inclusive culture is essential to realizing vision of Rotary. Peace is a cornerstone of rotary’s mission. 

Promoting positive peace by creating high level of human capital, acceptance of rights of others, having transparency of thought and action, equitable distribution of resources free flow of information in social, political and economic fields can fight most of the challenges faced by societies.

We also had a pleasure to welcome & get to know, visiting Rotarian, Wale Bogunjko, PP RC of Ibadan Gold, D-9125 Nigeria. He shared his experience as Rotarian who recently immigrated to Canada 

  An online district event, the Vocational Services Webinar, was hosted by District Chair for Vocational Services, Sunil Sharma and the Dist. vocational committee, on Monday, February 12, 2024. Mário César Martins de Camargo, Rotary International President for 2025-26 was the guest speaker who delivered an insightful presentation: "The Future of Vocational Services in Rotary." DG Brenda warmly introduced the esteemed guest speaker, setting the stage for an engaging and informative session 

 At Rotary, we have no tolerance for racism.

Promoting respect, celebrating diversity, demanding ethical leadership, and working tirelessly to advance peace are central tenets of our work.

We have more work to do to create more just, open and welcoming communities for all people.

We know there are no easy fixes and that challenging conversations and work lie before all of us.

Rotary’s strength has long been our ability and commitment to bringing people together.

We will tap into that strength now as we stand with those who are working for peace and justice. 

Rotary will do our part to listen, learn and take action to ensure that we continue to contribute to making positive change.   

    Annual Tree Lighting Ceremony; The annual kick-off the holiday season with the Winter Lights Festival in Downtown Brampton was scheduled on Friday, November 17, 2023 from 6:00 PM to 10:00 PM.

The annual tradition continued to light the way for Santa’s arrival. A 60-foot spruce tree, decorated with over 10,000 lights came to life in Ken Whillans Square as Mayor Patrick Brown and members of Council did a countdown. 

This magnificent tree was selected in 2001 by The RC Brampton South as a focal point for the Annual Christmas tree lighting ceremony for the residents of the city of Brampton to enjoy.

There were magical light displays and over 145,000 sparkling LED lights, transformed the park into a winter wonderland. People wandered through Gage Park for the ultimate holiday light experienceThe event featured winter lights displays, amusement rides, food vendors, and fun giveaways and activations for the whole family..

AG Fionna Ferguson represented on the stage The Rotary Brampton Cluster. She spoke about the contributions of Rotary to the Brampton community.. 

To mark the world Polio day and to raise awareness about this amongst the Brampton community, District Polio Chair and also president of Rotary    Club Brampton Badar Shamim arranged for an End Polio Now Flag raising at Brampton City Hall. All the four Rotary clubs of Brampton cluster joined hands with RC Brampton for this ceremony, which was addressed by the Brampton City Mayor Patrick Brown and AG Fionna Ferguson .City Councilors GS Toor, H Singh and Rod Power and many non-rotarians also attended the event.

  RLI provides foundational knowledge of the machinery of Rotary, starting at a relevant and personal level. That learning can be brought into play right away for the benefit of all members in all clubs. 

The RLI program is divided into 3 segments.  First segment of RLI is about YOU, as a ROTARIAN, understanding your place in the organization, gaining confidence as you learn the essentials, and seeing the opportunities open to you. The Second segment of RLI is about your role in your club: being engaged, being an effective leader, building teams, contributing to good communication and more. And, importantly, how to use your growing knowledge of Rotary. The Third segment is about how you journey on, how you help to build your club using media & public relations, planning strategically for leadership, looking at service opportunities outside your club - perhaps internationally - and understanding the workings of The Rotary Foundation. Each level builds upon the one before it, and creates a strong knowledge-based foundation for you as an active Rotarian leader.

The Fall 2023 RLI was held at Holiday Inn, Milton on October 21st.. 

While president Kiran Duggal completed her third part and got a certificate of completion, Peace Anyira completed her part one of RLI. it was a day full of fun and learning.

Thanks Mama Latigo and Simran to volunteer for bingo session at Delta Bingo and Gaming   and helping to acquire funds to support our local charities.

     Club members were invited to a wonderful Rotary celebration and social at the home of Rtn. Usha and Sunil Sharma On Monday, August 28th, 2023.

It was a club social, a potluck and backyard barbecue feast which started around 7 pm and ended by 9.15pm. It was an unforgettable evening set to be a fiery extravaganza of delicious food i.e. mouth-watering BBQ, ice cold drinks and great company. The high light of the event was that it was vegetarian foodstuff diversity enjoyed by everyone. We also cut a cake to celebrate birthday of our member Renu Sodhi .

We had a chance to interact with our prospective member Peace U. This occasion was her first empirical meeting with club members to get a first-hand knowledge about Rotary.

 The credit to volunteer  for back to back bingo session at Delta Bingo and Gaming during the month of August goes to Kiran,  Irallya ,Usha Sharma  and Sunil. This volunteering enables us to acquire funds to support our local charities. Thank you Delta Bingo and Gaming.  

This Rotary Brampton cluster event took place from 7th to 9th July 2023 at Century Gardens Rec; Centre (North Rink). The goal was to raise awareness of Rotary in our community (Brampton) with an objective to have a unified approach from all 5 Brampton Rotary clubs. Each club decided to staff the booth to cover the 3 days of event. It helped in educating and informing people about Rotary and our contribution to the community. 

RCBS was represented by Norm, Sunil and Kiran. The organizing Cluster leader Bud Suku of Brampton Heart lake club mentioned that 20 membership leads were received from numerous  

Community members who visited the stall.
