Club President's Message

RCBS disburses Annual scholarships to students of six Brampton city schools to empower young students who are our future through scholarships and leadership programs, to help them toward removing any barriers that may stand in the way of their achieving success and to acknowledge students who exemplify and have demonstrated a good citizenship qualities.

The commencement ceremony of these 6 schools was on 27th June. Our members made it appoint to attend individually and be there to present these scholarships, since the time & date of all was overlapping 

District Conference "The Power of Our Voices" was held at Royal Botanical Gardens in Burlington on May 6th. The highlights of the event were some amazing speakers with their stories and learnings to inspire attendees. Kandy Kennedy from Eagle Spirits of the Great Waters led the session "Beyond Reconciliation" - a conversation about how we can move forward in partnership with our First Peoples. The event was organized keeping in mind, “Go Green” 

There was lots of time for mixing and mingling, meeting new friends and re-connecting with some familiar one.

PDG Kathi Dick, District Chair, District 7080 Peace Committee, arranged a visit to Conrad Grebel University College – home of Peace and Conflict Studies (PACS) at the University of Waterloo. This program is the first of its kind in Canada and has been in operation for over 40 years. 

Around 25 rotarians enjoyed a tour of the College and a complimentary lunch on !2th April. Fred Martin, director of advancement of Conrad Grebel University College was our host. PACS department chair, Reina Neufeldt and some (MPACS) Master of Peace and Conflict Studies students were also the part, 

This wasa great opportunity to visit this amazing institution, that is right here in our District, and to learn about the peace and conflict studies courses available.

Everyone was looking forward to coming together this year, to spend time with family, friends, and fellow rotarians, having to suspend this popular event during the pandemic. So it was decided to have a club social dinner on first of April. Club service chair Norm Latimer and our newest member Usha Sharma took the lead to arrange the event. Inviting guests and planning about menu, decorations, fun games, draws and prizes and above all keeping children entertained, kept every one active and busy besides the team leaders for quite some time.

       Amongst the guests were the families and friend. Assistant DG Fionna Ferguson and Husband Rtn Graham were there to enjoy the evening. 

We paid tributes to mother of Mama Latigo, who passed away in December Mama told us that her family is proud of the good life she lived and the good path she left for them. 

We took this opportunity to felicitate a bright young student Harsh Patel, who helped to build our club website. In addition, we invited an ex Rotarian Renu Sodhi to become honorary member of RCBS. 

It turned out to be a great dinner party: everyone enjoyed the food, fun and frolic. 

An estimated 5.9 million children under the age of five die each year because of malnutrition, inadequate health care, and poor sanitation — all of which can be prevented.

Rotary makes high-quality health care available to vulnerable mothers and children so they can live longer and grow stronger. We expand access to quality care, so mothers and children everywhere can have the same opportunities for a healthy future. 

Rotary provides education, immunizations, birth kits, and mobile health clinics. Women are taught how to prevent mother-to-infant HIV transmission, how to breast-feed, and how to protect themselves and their children from disease.

 Turkey and Syria were struck by a devastating earthquake on 6 February that has killed tens of thousands of people, destroyed thousands of homes and other structures, and left people across the region without shelter in bitterly cold winter weather. Rotary's project partner ShelterBox’s team is in Turkey, collaborating closely with Rotary district leaders to respond to provide people affected by the earthquake with tents and essential aid items they need.

Thank you Taiwo, Arrilia, Sunil & Usha Sharma.  for volunteering  for a back to back session at Delta Bingo and Gaming during the month of January. This volunteering enables us   to acquire funds to support our local charities. Thank you Delta Bingo and Gaming. 

The club assembly, an in person meeting at Cassie Campbell Community Center took place on November 28th 2022. The club members unanimously decided that President Kiran Duggal would continue for the next term.

 The credit to volunteer  for back to back bingo session at Delta Bingo and Gaming during the month of November goes to Mama Latigo, Kiran, Usha Sharma  and Sunil. This volunteering enables us to acquire funds to support our local charities. Thank you Delta Bingo and Gaming.  

  End Polio Now

The world is 99.9% polio free, the fight to end polio is not over and Rotary Clubs world-wide continue to meet the challenge by raising funds to improve surveillance and provide vaccinations to all, 

As a symbol of the pledge to eradicate polio world-wide,  On  October 27th 2022,  The end polio now flag raising ceremony was organized by District 7080 Polio Chair Rtn. Badar Shamim, at the City Hall Brampton. The members of Rotary Club Brampton south in partnership with four other Rotary and a Rotaract club of Brampton Cluster were participants. In addition to Rotarians the event was attended by Member of Parliament for Brampton Centre, Shafqat Ali, Mayor Allan Thompson of Town of Caledon and City Councilors Rowena Santos and Dennis Keenan. 

 RLI designed to provide members and inspiring leaders with Rotary knowledge and allow them to develop their leadership potential, was held on October 15th. President Kiran Duggal attended the event and IPP Sunil Sharma hold a session on Vocational  services.
